IP Telephony Engineer / Unified Communications Consultant

Burwood Group, a Cisco Gold Partner specializing in Advanced Unified Communications, is looking to add to its growing Chicago team.

The Unified Communications Consultant will work in a variety of complex, enterprise environments including but not limited to Cisco Unified Communications Manager 4/5/6, Cisco Unity Unified Messaging (Exchange and Domino), Cisco Emergency Responder, Cisco IP Contact Center Express, Cisco Unified Operations and Provisioning Manager, Cisco Mobile Client (Orative), Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging, and Microsoft Office Communications Server.

The Unified Communications Consultant will oversee the design, architecture, implementation, security and support of large multi-site, multi-vendor unified communications environments; lead client visioning for future systems deployments, lead project teams, prepare scope documents and project plans, design and implement best practices for unified communications deployment to ensure client investment in technology is consistent with their business objectives and that proposed projects are executed successfully. The Unified Communications Consultant will also serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Unified Communications matters, including sales and RFP support, and mentoring, training and support of less senior Unified Communications Engineers.

This individual must possess strong interpersonal, business and technology skills that enable them to engage at the CxO and Director/Manager levels, as well as lead teams of consultants and clients. Ideal candidates will also be experienced in IT consulting with a holistic understanding of the IT operations within a business organization. Also, be able to quickly adapt to a fast-paced sales and quality-based delivery model, work in a team-based environment and self manage.

This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, between both the customer and all levels within the organization. Knowledge of sound business practices and a proven track record of exceeding customer expectations and anticipating their needs are also required. Must be motivated with a focus on team performance.


Primary Responsibilites:

  • Lead and SME for unified communications-related initiatives
  • Ensuring on time and on budget completion of project initiatives
  • Researching and developing innovative solutions around unified communications
  • Development of unified communications-based marketing solutions (white papers, case studies, etc.)
  • Being involved on business development and pre-sales activities on unified communications-related activities


Job Qualifications:

  • 5-10+ years of overall IT experience
  • Minimum of 3-5+ years of experience consulting
  • Excels in the sale, planning, design, rollout and support for large enterprise unified communications initiatives (1000 to 20,000 endpoints)
  • In-depth experience with multi-site, global IP telephony and unified communications rollouts/migrations
  • Experience integrating/migrating legacy PBX infrastructure to unified communications
  • Expert knowledge in Cisco’s Unified Communications product portfolio.
  • Cisco routing and switching experience, including LAN/WAN/Security architecture
  • Experience with IPCC scripting a plus
  • CCIE Voice or CCVP certification preferred
  • Team and/or project leadership experience
  • Strong customer relationship skills
  • Strong communication skills; ability to present to small/medium groups
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Willing to travel
